Project Marvel Experience-athon Day 1 & 2 Readout

Adobe Experience-athons are all about engaging employees in using Adobe apps and services while creating knowledgeable brand ambassadors. When employees have a chance to use our products first-hand, they gain a better understanding of what it is like to walk in the shoes of our customers.

About Project Marvel

Project Marvel Experience-athon

  • In-person sessions week of March 28 in San Jose, San Francisco, Seattle, Lehi, New York, & Newton; In-person sessions featured product team members Aubrey Cattell, Ben Forta, Ely Greenfield, & Brian Nemhauser.
  • Remote Connect sessions week of April 11, and in India week of April 18
  • Visit to Noida & Bangalore for in-person sessions week of May 31
Participating employees were asked to complete a simple mission that engaged them in using Project Marvel

Day 1 & 2 Results

  • Event venues in San Jose, San Francisco, and Seattle were filled to capacity
  • Both sessions in Lehi were standing room only
  • 324 employees completed survey
I was able to successfully complete the mission.
Completing this mission was a delightful experience.
It was easy to accomplish the goal of this mission.
  • 86% of respondents were successful in completing the mission
  • 82% of respondents said completing the mission was a delightful experience
  • 80% of respondents said it was easy to complete the mission

Success, emotion, & effort come together in shaping customers' perception of their experience.

Key Success Metric

95% of experience-athon participants who responded to the survey had no experience or limited knowledge with Project Marvel

But close to 80% of those participants said they were likely or very likely to use Project Marvel in the future.

And, multiple employees asked if they could use Marvel right now for both work and personal use.

A few ideas from employees on improving the customer experience:

  • Revert/undo option
  • Drag and drop
  • Cut and paste (from the web)
  • Crop individual photos
  • Change size (of text, pictures, icons), color (of icons), background (outside the themes)
  • Create custom layouts
  • Change the way images/text are animated (e.g., instead of always coming in from the left, I want it to do "dissolve," from up to down, etc.

Many of these suggestions are already in the Marvel backlog. If there’s a recurring theme though, it has to do with progressive user control. The team will need to strike a balance there with the “fast, fun, and friction-less” approach that has made the Marvel mobile apps so successful.

Some bugs were found during the experience-athon, many of which were known issues –

  • Google photos showing up
  • Mic issues in Voice
  • Scrolling in My Projects

Employee engagement in the experience-athon also uncovered IE issues which need to be addressed prior to release.

It has been really helpful to have employees pressure testing Project Marvel.

A couple employee comments about experience-athons

  • Do more of them. WIN-WIN for All. It helps Adobe and our Customers have a better overall experience when we have a lot of the same issues end-user would have. This gives Adobe the time to fix potential issues that were missed originally.
  • Very helpful in both ways. For product folks and employees as it forces them to take time to try out the new product which we otherwise might tend to forget. Keep 'em coming and also have a platform within Adobe to share employee work/projects just to see what others are making.
