June White finds satisfaction in helping people grow and achieve their potential, both at home with her family and at work with her peers and team at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

As a technology manager there, June manages the staff who create and maintain custom computer solutions for bank examiners.

“My passion is problem solving and developing people,” June says. “I like solving problems with technology because it is ever-changing and interesting. Plus, it requires not just science but some creativity or innovation as well.”

June earned her bachelor of science degree in Mathematics and Business from William Jewell and a Master’s Certificate in IT Project Management from George Washington University.

“I started as a computer programmer, moved into a technical leadership role and then was trained as a professional facilitator (for identifying requirements and solving problems),” she says. “I moved from that into project management, and then into an official technology managerial position.”

June notes that sometimes people considering the tech field think it is all engineering focused.

“There are aspects of engineering, and it can be all engineering if you like—but there are lots of opportunities for people interaction, leadership, communication and problem solving.”

And she advises girls considering tech and computer science as a career to keep that in mind.

“Do it! Take as much math and science as you can. But also work on your speaking/communication and organization skills. Those are very important, too.”
